Walking through the Schammer near Leusden

Just above Leusden, you can take a walk through De Schammer, a nature reserve nestled between the Barneveldse Beek stream and the Valleikanaal canal. Make sure you wear waterproof hiking boots, as part of the route follows unpaved paths along the Valleikanaal canal. De Schammer was redesigned in the winter of 2011. You'll find an unspoiled landscape of flower-filled meadows, marshland, and swaying reeds. It gives you a sense of how large parts of the Gelderse Vallei used to be. In the center of the area, you'll walk along a boardwalk through the marsh. It's expansive and peaceful here, ideal for relaxing and leaving your daily routine behind. After your walk, you can enjoy lunch or drinks on the pleasant terrace of the Van der Valk Hotel Leusden.
