Cycling along the historic Grebbe Line

Discover the Grebbe Line
The starting point of this route is just outside Veenendaal at Fort aan de Buursteeg. This fort played a major role in the defense of the Grebbe Line at the end of the eighteenth century. At the fort you will find the Grebbelinie visitor center where you can completely immerse yourself in this fascinating history. From here you set course for Renswoude and further to the Utrechtse Heuvelrug past the Walderveense Mill. Between junctions 36 and 76 you pass the Lunterse Beek. The Lunterse Beek belongs to the ecological main structure between the Veluwe and the Utrechtse Heuvelrug. At junction 76 you will see Fort Daatselaar on the right, this is a large defense structure from 1799.

Sights from the past
At junction 99 you will see the Juffrouwdijk line, this is a defense line from 1799. At the place where the Buursteeg, Slaperdijk and the Schalmdijk intersect you will see Battery on the Schalmdijk, this is a defense work from 1786. From the cycle path you can reach the see the moat and the casemate.
