Cycling along the historic Grebbelinie

Discover the Grebbelinie
The starting point of this route is just outside Veenendaal at Fort aan de Buursteeg. This fort played a major role in the defence of the Grebbelinie at the end of the eighteenth century. At the fort you will find the Grebbelinie visitors centre where you can fully immerse yourself in this fascinating history. From here you head to Renswoude and further to the Utrechtse Heuvelrug along the Walderveense Molen. Between junctions 36 and 76 you will pass the Lunterse Beek. The Lunterse Beek is part of the ecological main structure between the Veluwe and the Utrechtse Heuvelrug. At junction 76 you will see Fort Daatselaar on the right, this is a large defensive structure from 1799.

Sights from the past
At junction 99 you can see the Juffrouwdijk line, this is a defence line from 1799. At the place where the Buursteeg, Slaperdijk and the Schalmdijk intersect you can see the Battery on the Schalmdijk, this is a defence structure from 1786. From the cycle path you can see the moat and the casemate.
