The Diemerpark is located on the Diemerzeedijk, in the Amsterdam district of IJburg. Put on your walking shoes to discover the special urban nature here.
IJburg
Then you walk onto the Diemerzeedijk, a dike that dates back to the thirteenth century and was supposed to protect the country against the former Zuiderzee. You then walk through the IJburg: a residential area built on artificial islands.
Diemer Park
The Diemerpark is still relatively young, it was built in 2004. You will see various types of grasses, herbs, flowers and shrubs. In total there are more than 200 plant species. Foxes and grass snakes also live here. In the southeastern part of the park you can see how nature has been allowed to take its course. A swamp area is developing on the footpath along the Amsterdam-Rhine Canal. What a variety!
