Of course, the beach is the main attraction here, but there are also many beautiful things to discover in and around Renesse. With this route you walk past Moermond Castle, the Vroonsgronden – and the beach!

Moermond Castle
The route starts at Hotel Blooker, a nice hotel in pleasant Renesse. From here you walk through a beautiful street to the 45 hectare estate of the beautiful Slot Moermond. This castle originally dates from the thirteenth century, but in 1953 it was seriously damaged by the Flood. In recent years, the damaged walls of, among other things, the moat have been restored. Did you know that the engineers of the Brouwersdam had their offices here? Not bad!

Vroons grounds
You continue to the coast for a lovely long beach walk. Only after a long way do you dive back into the dunes to walk back towards Renesse. Here you have a beautiful view of the Vroonsgronden: a sand drift landscape dating from the Middle Ages. Due to centuries of grazing, this area has flattened and deteriorated into a semi-open dune landscape with a few creeks. The area itself is not accessible. The Vroonplas, further along, is a recreational area on the edge of Renesse.

Moermond Castle in Renesse dates from the 13th century. The castle has a wide driveway and an authentic moat. You don't need a lot of imagination to imagine how it used to be here. The Castle is embraced by the Moermond Estate. A protected natural area. The castle has been destroyed twice by battles and rebuilt. The current Moermond castle is therefore a hotchpotch of architectural styles from different periods.
