Walking through the Amelisweerd and past Fort Rijnauwen

Put on your walking shoes for a nice walk through the countryside of Utrecht. You will find plenty of natural beauty and history here.

Fort Rijnauwen
From Stayokay Utrecht - Bunnik you walk through a beautiful leafy avenue to Fort Rijnauwen. With 32 hectares this is the largest fortress of the New Dutch Waterline. The fort was built at the end of the nineteenth century. Nowadays the fort and the surroundings serve as a nature reserve. Badgers, martens and birds of prey live there. There is also a large variety of plants to see, such as orchids. From the footpath you have a beautiful view of this old fort.

Amelisweerd
Along the banks of the Kromme Rijn it is nice and quiet to walk. You will pass through the park forest of Landgoed Amelisweerd. Further on you can cross the river with a small bridge to visit country house Oud-Amelisweerd. It is now set up as a museum, there are works by the artist Armando on display. Back at Stayokay Utrecht - Bunnik, located in country house Rhijnauwen, you can have a drink in the café in the coach house. A historical place - again!
