In the Dutch lowlands it is wonderfully quiet walking. This route also takes you through old towns such as De Rijp and Oost-Graftdijk. What a nice cultural history you will find here!

The ripe
De Rijp was a prosperous town for several centuries thanks to whaling and herring fishing. You can still see some of that prosperity when you walk past the beautiful old buildings in the Rechtestraat. You can also see some monuments in the adjacent Graft. Then you walk into the wide polders. What a nice quiet walk here. Ideal for a chat with friends or family.

East Graftdijk
In West-Graftdijk you will pass Europarcs Resort de Rijp, a nice holiday park with a good restaurant. You walk back into the countryside over the dike along the canal. In the picturesque Oost-Graftdijk you can see the village church from 1840 with a wooden turret. You will also pass a completely wooden worker's cottage from 1877. Behind this house is a unique hekelhut: Generations of Graftdijkers earned their living by hecking hemp for rope makers.

This workers' house from 1877 is one of the few completely wooden houses on the former Schermereiland. Jannetje Heertjes was the last occupant of the house. Behind the house is the island's only remaining hating pen, which used to be used to hate hemp.
