Description
Alkmaar is a charming town with a rich history. It is ideal to explore by bike. Your route starts at Cafe Bij Zuid. In the countryside, you cycle through the Schermerpolder, a characteristic Dutch landscape with many beautiful old windmills. Further on, you cycle straight into the polder! You cycle past various windmills, including Korenmolen De Oude Knegt and the Noordermolen. In the heart of Alkmaar, you experience the town's rich history. You pass four monumental wind-powered drainage mills from 1630—what a beautiful sight! Further along, you cycle through the neat polders with their straight ditches and vast meadows. Later in the route, you pass picturesque Grootschemer.
