A detour at Berg

Just outside Maastricht, it is wonderful to walk through the hills near the hamlet of Berg. You will find peace and a rich cultural history here.

Quarries
You walk through a succession of hillside forest, orchards and arable land. A wonderful area where you quickly forget the everyday routine. On the way you pass some old marl quarries. On the edge of Cadier en Keer you can see an eighteenth-century half-timbered house.

Vineyard
Just outside the village you pass Domein Backerbosch. Around the year 300, a Roman villa stood here. In the sixties of the last century, the first vines were planted on this spot by fathers. In 2006 these were replaced by more resistant varieties. In the hamlet of Berg you will see the monumental Sint Gerlach on your left, a former sanatorium from 1915.
