A must for history buffs with the Zuiderzee Museum, the nice Flessenscheepjes Museum, the beautiful Enkhuizen and old Frisian villages such as Hoogkarspel!

Museums Enkhuizen
You drive to beautiful Enkhuizen with the Zuiderzee Museum, where you can experience the history of the Zuiderzee and the villages yourself in the open-air museum. Nearby is the Flessenscheepjes Museum, less known but very nice. It contains the world's most extensive collection of bottle ships, including ones from the early sailing and the Dutch East India Company period.

Stolp farms
You cycle along the Oude Haven and then drive out of Enkhuizen via the city gate de Koepoort, a detached monument from 1649. Along the Markermeer you cycle to Hem and Venhuizen, two villages that have grown together and where you see centuries-old farmhouses. In Venhuizen you also pass the former town hall from the eighteenth century. You can also see Frisian farmhouses in the old villages of Hoogkarspel and Grootebroek. They betray that this region belonged to Frisian territory for a long time in the Middle Ages.

In the Zuiderzee Museum you can experience the history of the Zuiderzee and the surrounding villages yourself in both the indoor museum and the outdoor museum. In this museum you take an impressive journey through time. For example, go back to the 1930s, when the Zuiderzee became the IJsselmeer. In a ferry you go across the IJsselmeer to the outdoor museum. You will almost be short of eyes there. Smell the sea water, walk along cobblestone streets and admire authentic houses, various shops, workshops and churches in villages along the former Zuiderzee. Help craftsmen in the Markerwaard knitting nets or twist a rope in the rope-making workshop. Do you also want to take a look at the treasury of the Zuiderzee? Then go to the indoor museum, which shows you a rich collection with its varied exhibitions. In addition to masterpieces, this collection also includes personal stories about traditional life. With a combination of history, photography, traditional costume and design you get a beautiful overall picture of life along the Zuiderzee.
