Description

A must for history lovers with the Zuiderzee Museum, the nice Bottle Scheepjes Museum, beautiful Enkhuizen and old Frisian villages such as Hoogkarspel!

Museums Enkhuizen
You drive to beautiful Enkhuizen with the Zuiderzee Museum, where you can experience the history of the Zuiderzee and the villages themselves in the open-air museum. Nearby is the Bottle Scheepjes Museum, less known but very nice. It contains the world's most extensive collection of bottle ships, including from early sailing and the VOC period.

Bell farms
You cycle along the Old Harbor and then leave Enkhuizen via the city gate, the Koepoort, a free-standing monument from 1649. You cycle along the Markermeer to Hem and Venhuizen, two villages that have grown together where you see centuries-old bell-shaped farms. In Venhuizen you also pass the former town hall from the eighteenth century. You can also see Frisian bell-shaped farms in the old villages of Hoogkarspel and Grootebroek. They reveal that this region belonged to Frisian territory for a long time in the Middle Ages.
