The Achterhoek is full of discoveries. One moment you are cycling past a castle from the fourteenth century, the next moment you are in the largest museum for Dutch Modern Realism!
Ruurlo Castle
You will soon discover Ruurlo Castle, near the town of the same name. This country estate dates back to 1326. It was almost continuously owned by the noble Van Heeckeren van Kell family from the fifteenth century until 1978. You cycle further through the beautiful Achterhoek landscape, through nature and characteristic hamlets, above Vorden.
Museum MORE
Vorden is a real castle village. Numerous estates are hidden in the dense forests north of Vorden, through which you cycle. From Zutphen you cycle along the IJssel to the lovely Gorssel, where you can visit Museum MORE: the largest museum for Dutch Modern Realism. You are welcome to drink a cup of coffee or enjoy a delicious lunch in the museum's brasserie. You cycle back via the small Almen.
