Extensive reed beds and flowery hay fields. Lovely gullies, quiet lakes, large puddles and deep canals. That is what you can expect in the Giethoorn area.
The Wieden
The starting point for this bike tour is Restaurant An\\\'t Waeter, where you can enjoy a snack and a drink on the terrace with a view over the water of the Weerribben. Together with the Weerribben, the De Wieden polder area is one of the most important wetlands in Europe. The dense swamps are home to rare plant species, including pine clubmoss, swamp clubmoss, blond sedge and slender woolly grass. The marsh harrier and rare short-eared owl hunt for their prey above quaking bogs, blue grasslands and bogs.
The Fook
You will also come across a beautiful Dutch windmill along your route. De Foeke is still very young and was built in 1968. This pole coater dominates the landscape - you can see it from afar - and can be viewed from very close. The polder mill was built to enhance the nearby visitor center. During this bike tour, the beautiful nature is interspersed with the historic harbor towns of Vollenhove and Blokzijl, but we will of course not skip Giethoorn either.
