Description

Wonderful touring through the Veluwe woods, past special historical spots. How beautiful the Netherlands is!

Copper Mill
Soon past a beautiful spot: the Kopermolen, an overshot water mill that grinds on the Klaarbeek. This is also a paper mill. It probably dates from the eighteenth century. Before 1745, the mill was used to grind paper, after which the mill was used as a copper mill, for covering ship hulls and coin plates.

Hidden Village
Via Epe you drive into the Nunspeet forests in the direction of Vierhouten. With a bit of luck you might see a deer dart into the woods! Just above the village you will pass the Monument to the Dead of Jews at the Hidden Village, a hiding place for Jews during the Second World War. Dozens of Jews were hidden here in small huts - some of which have been reconstructed - but the village was eventually discovered. You drive back to Emst via the Elspeeter forest.
