From Maassluis to Maasland

Sand Motor Monster You start today in the cozy Kijkduin. From here you cycle right along the coast to Monster, straight through the dunes. You are immediately assured of a holiday feeling! In the sea you sometimes see the sand motor, which is supposed to ensure that the beaches here become wider and do not erode.

Maassluis Maassluis originated around 1340 as a small settlement, which mainly lived from fishing. In the nineteenth century, Maassluis became world-famous through a towing company and the activities on the water expanded to include ship salvage, for example. The National Towing Museum can still be found in the town, but a company that has been providing information services in and around the port of Rotterdam since 1872 also settled there. You cycle back via Maasland, a picturesque reclamation village that is centuries old.
