Two beautiful old towns in one route! Deventer and Zutphen are a picture. They are connected by the mighty IJssel.
Historic Deventer
The route starts in Deventer, a beautiful gem on the IJssel. The old center enjoys a protected cityscape. You will see many monumental buildings that remind you of times gone by. At the tree-lined Brink you can see De Waag, a beautiful museum from 1531. At the Grote Kerkhof you can see the old town hall and the Lebuïnuskerk. Further on, below Gorssel, you pass the Molen Geertruida Cornelia, a flour mill from 1893.
Hanseatic city of Zutphen
You follow the IJssel all the way to Zutphen. Take some time here to enjoy the historic atmosphere: this Hanseatic town still has one of the best-preserved old town centers in the Netherlands! You will cycle back along the IJssel, a mighty river that brought wealth to the Hanseatic cities.
