Description
Fishing village De Rijp
You start this walk on the edge of the former fishing village of De Rijp. Between the 17th and 19th centuries, De Rijp was very prosperous due to whaling and herring fishing. Later that industry moved to other cities in North Holland. At the beginning of the route you can take a look at the Museum Jan Boon"Het Walhuis\\\", Raadhuis De Rijp and the Grote Kerk De Rijp. Here you will discover some traces of the rich past of the village. You can also settle down in De Rijp at Het Wapen van Munster for a snack and a drink. Then you can go on the road full of energy.
On foot through the polders
Through the polders you set course to Oost-Graftdijk, West-Graftdijk and back to the Rijp. You walk along the polder Kamerhop that was pumped dry in 1643.
A historic hatchery
You will find a worker's cottage on the edge of Oost-Graftdijk. This is one of the few fully wooden houses on the former Schermer Island. In the so-called hayloft behind the house, hemp used to be divided into bunches and bundled. It is the only historic hayloft still to be found here.
