Castle route in the border area of the Meuse

A beautiful route from National Park De Hoge Kempen to Stein. Along the way there is enough heritage to see: characteristic square farms, old churches and various castles, such as a real moated castle.

Meuse Valley
First you ride through the Meuse valley. Here you enjoy the peace in a landscape of meadows, floodplains and dikes. From the cycle path you regularly look out over the rippling Meuse water. If you cross the river in this region, you also cross the border. In the Netherlands you come through Geulle on the Meuse, then you ride on a car-free road along the meadows to the beautiful town of Stein.

High Kempen
From the road around the Belgian Kotem you have beautiful views over the Meuse valley. What a wonderful place to cycle! In Oud-Rekem, one of the most beautiful villages in Flanders, you will find the impressive castle d\\\'Aspremont-Lynden, a restored museum church and the Ucoverpoort from 1630. You will also pass the information office of Toerisme Lanaken. Be sure to stop by for more regional information. On the edge of the Hoge Kempen you will pass Domein Pietersheim, a beautiful castle park with a medieval moated castle.
