Castle route in the border area of the Meuse

A beautiful route from De Hoge Kempen National Park to Stein. There is plenty of heritage to see along the way: characteristic square farms, old churches and various castles, including a real moated castle.

Meuse valley
First you drive through the Maas Valley. Here you can enjoy the peace and quiet in a landscape of meadows, floodplains and dikes. From the cycle path you regularly look out over the rippling Maaswater. When you cross the river in this region, you cross the border at the same time. In the Netherlands you pass through Geulle aan de Maas, then drive on a car-free road along the meadows to the beautiful town of Stein.

Hoge Kempen
From the road around Kotem in Belgium you have beautiful views of the Maas Valley. How wonderful it is to cycle here! In Oud-Rekem, one of the most beautiful villages in Flanders, you will find the impressive d\\\'Aspremont-Lynden castle, a restored museum church and the Ucoverpoort from 1630. You will also pass the information office of Toerisme Lanaken. Be sure to stop by here for more regional information. On the edge of the Hoge Kempen you will pass Domein Pietersheim, a beautiful castle park with a medieval moated castle.
