Then you cycle to Altweerterheide, named after the nature reserve of the same name. What you cycle through. Weerter trader Jan Henderiks, nicknamed Bolle Jan because of his trade in flower bulbs, purchased no less than 80 hectares of wasteland here in 1911. He ordered the area to be developed and was thus at the cradle of Altweerterheide as a village and nature reserve.
Kempen-Broek
Altweerterheide, like the Tungelerwallen through which you cycle afterwards, is part of the cross-border Kempen-Broek nature reserve, which extends from Maaseik to Nederweert. From forests to sand drifts and from rural greenery to wetland nature reserves, you will discover it all here. A little later you cross the beautifully meandering Tungelerbeek - here you will find a nice picnic bench near a few stepping stones in the water, worth taking a break!
Below you will find various suggestions for breaks that you can visit during your route. These are divided into different categories, making it easy for you to choose.
