This route takes you through Heist-op-den-Berg, a charming town in the Antwerp Kempen. In the rural countryside you can enjoy the tranquility and the natural landscape.
Soon after boarding, you will cycle up the Heistse Berg: a 48 meter high hill that forms the heart of Heist-op-den-Berg. You will see a number of sights here, such as the old courthouse and town hall, the fourteenth-century Sint-Lambertus church and the rectory from 1769. Further on you will enter the Hoogbergbos. You can climb the water tower on Sunday afternoon for a view that will take you as far as Brussels and Antwerp on a clear day.
In the outlying area you cycle through a succession of agricultural fields and groves. It is wonderfully quiet here to make kilometers. You regularly see old chapels and Kempen farms. Between junctions 67 and 94 you drive a bit on the Kempen-Hagelandroute, a cycle path that has been constructed over a former railway line. Then you drive into the Herenbossen, a beautiful nature reserve located in the Nete valley. You can go to Tourism Heist-op-den-Berg for more information about this region.
