Fortified town of Hulst
You start at Boerderijwinkel Schout, where you can stock up on some tasty fresh fruit for the road. From outside the city you can still see the old ramparts from the time when Hulst was a fortress. The old center enjoys a protected cityscape. The Four Crafts Regional Museum is located in a former refuge for monks, the building originally dates from the sixteenth century. The town hall on the Grote Markt is a Gothic gem from 1534.
You cycle along the Vlaamse Kreek, which is famous for its orchid grassland. In winter you always see ducks and geese here. Further on you cycle along the Verdronken Land van Saeftinghe, the largest brackish marsh in Europe. Excursions through this unique nature reserve are organized from the visitor center at Emmadorp. In Lamswaarden you can see the Sint-Cornelius, a church from 1873. Through the polders you drive back to Hulst: in this rural area you can fully enjoy peace and space!
