Description

It sounds beautiful: the Drowned Land of Saeftinghe. And it is also a beautiful area, home to numerous birds. Together with the fortified town of Hulst, a wonderful route full of discoveries!

Fortified town of Hulst
From outside the city you can still see the old ramparts from the time when Hulst was a fortress. The old center enjoys a protected cityscape. The Four Crafts Regional Museum is located in a former refuge for monks, the building originally dates from the sixteenth century. The town hall on the Grote Markt is a Gothic gem from 1534.

Drowned Land
You cycle along the Flemish Creek, which is famous for its orchid grassland. In winter you always see ducks and geese here. Further on you cycle past the Drowned Land of Saeftinghe, the largest brackish water marsh in Europe. Excursions through this unique nature reserve are organized from the visitor center at Emmadorp. In Lamswaarde you will see St. Cornelius, a church from 1873. You drive back through the polders to Hulst: in this rural area you can fully enjoy peace and space!
