Along Castle Ruurlo in the beautiful Achterhoek

How wonderfully authentic the Achterhoek is. You can cycle here for hours through the greenery, past small old villages. This route also includes Ruurlo Castle and the nice town of Ruurlo!

Babbling brook
Your route starts at Cafe Restaurant Nijhof, in the charming hamlet of Halle. Just a cup of coffee and then: we're going! Soon you cycle through the old church village of Mariënvelde. You continue through a backdrop of old ash trees, meadows and hedgerows along the babbling brook Veengoot. Get off in Ruurlo, a pleasant town with a beautiful historic core. You can see here, among other things, the fourteenth-century village church.

Castle Ruurlo
Ruurlo Castle is located near the town of the same name. This country estate dates from 1326. From the fifteenth century until 1978, it was owned almost continuously by the noble Van Heeckeren van Kell family. Through the beautiful Achterhoek bocage landscape you cycle through nature and characteristic hamlets such as Veldhoek back to your starting point. Along the way you will hardly encounter any through roads: what peace and space. It's wonderful to downshift here in the Achterhoek!
