Bergen is ideal for a walk. You will see beautiful old buildings and plenty of natural beauty.
Ruin church
The route starts at Duinvermaak. Enjoy a coffee here before you walk into the Oudburgerpolder. This polder was created by land reclamation in the twelfth century. From the dike you can enjoy the mosaic of meadows, ditches and bushes. It is nice and quiet to walk here. A little later you walk back into Bergen. The area around the fifteenth-century ruined church enjoys a protected village view, you will experience a wonderful historical atmosphere here.
Damlander mill
Just below Bergen you walk back into the polder, where you enjoy the vast landscape. At Nesdijk 7 is the former home of Adriaan Roland Holst, the 'Prince of the Dutch Poets'. Since 2002, this house has often been occupied by writers who complete new work there. You will also see the Damlander mill, a beautiful polder mill from 1700. Then you walk through the old Bergerbos with its stately deciduous trees and avenues.
