Bergen (NH), North Holland, The Netherlands
Hiking route: 750903
Provided by: Groots Genieten
Bergen is perfect for a walk. You'll see beautiful old buildings and plenty of natural beauty.
Ruin church
The route begins in the Oudburgerpolder. This polder was created through land reclamation in the twelfth century. From the dike, you can enjoy the mosaic of meadows, ditches, and copses. It's a wonderfully peaceful walk. A little later, you'll enter Bergen again. The area around the fifteenth-century Ruïnekerk (Ruined Church) is a protected village view, and you'll experience a wonderfully historic atmosphere here.
Damlander mill
Just below Bergen, you'll briefly enter the polder again, where you can enjoy the expansive landscape. At Nesdijk 7 stands the former home of Adriaan Roland Holst, the "Prince of Dutch Poets." Since 2002, this house has often been occupied by writers who complete new works there. You'll also see the Damlandermolen, a beautiful polder mill dating from 1700. Then you'll walk through the old Bergerbos forest with its stately deciduous trees and avenues.
Below you will find various suggestions for breaks that you can visit during your route. These are divided into different categories, making it easy for you to choose.
