It is nice and quiet walking in the area around Melick in Central Limburg. Put on your walking shoes for a wonderful day in the Roer Valley and in the woods.

Prince Bernard
From here you can easily walk into some of the small-scale forests that lie just east of Melick. It's so quiet here! Ideal to immediately shake off the daily routine and fully enjoy the beautiful landscape. The Prins Bernhard is a flour mill from 1999.

Happiness place
Then you walk into the idyllic Roer valley. It is beautiful to walk here through a backdrop of grasslands, groves and of course the rippling Roer. A wonderful place to recharge the battery. On the river you will pass Happiness Spot 22 Roerdalen: the Happiness Pillars of the Bicycle Bridge. Further along is Frymerson Castle, which dates from 1860. Only part of the tower remains of the medieval castle.

The bicycle bridge is literally the center of Roerdalen. Cycling makes people happy. Dutch young people are the happiest in the world. The bicycle is a good symbol of it. Nowhere in the world are there as many cycling youngsters as in the Netherlands. High 'self-steering ability' is a basic condition for happiness. This is based on three pillars: autonomy, competence and connectedness. This is the ideal place to reflect on these happiness pillars. Looking at the current, the water level and the color of the Rudder.
