Gruitrode is a cozy village in Belgian Limburg. In the countryside you can enjoy the vast forests and natural beauty in the Itterdal for hours. And cycling on the historic Geuzenbaan.

Gruitroderbos
The route starts at Tourism Meeuwen-Gruitrode, where you can learn more about this beautiful region. In the village you will see a few chapels, you will also pass the ancient Sint-Gertrudiskerk: a late Gothic cruciform basilica built in marlstone. A little further on you enter the vast Gruitroderbos, which is part of the De Duinengordel nature reserve. How wonderfully quiet it is here! Take a deep breath and inhale the fresh pine scent!

Itterdal
From junction 526 you drive on the historic Geuzenbaan that runs through the Gruitroderbos. This driveway owes its name to the retreat of William of Orange after the Battle of Jodoigne in 1568. With their route, the Beggars wanted to avoid the knights of the Teutonic Order in Gruitrode, because they were not well-disposed towards Van Orange. At the Itterbeek you will pass the Kasteelmolen and the Rooiermolen. What beautiful places!

Meeuwen-Gruitrode is a rural community and has a great wealth of natural treasures, such as the Oudsberg, a 95-meter high inland dune. TIPS; Meeuwen-Gruitrode's favorite cycling spot is located between junction 33 and 04. Relax on the deck at Broekven. At junction 33 you can connect to the Geuzenbaan Cycle Route in the Duinengordel.
