Around Alkmaar, you will experience a varied day of cycling. First, you ride through the polders east of Bergen. It is wonderfully quiet here, ideal for unwinding. You enter Alkmaar along the Noordhollandsch Kanaal. The old city center boasts no fewer than 399 national monuments! Here you will find a succession of canals and centuries-old houses. You will pass the Waaggebouw and the Grote Kerk, among others. South of the center, you cycle through the Alkmaar Westerhoutkwartier, which enjoys protected cityscape status. In Egmond aan den Hoef, you pass the site where Egmond Castle once stood. The castle was demolished in 1798, but the old castle chapel from 1431 remains. You ride through the Bergermeerpolder to Bergen. The route ends with a culinary dinner at Restaurant Zandhoeve.
