Birch Hill
The route starts at Hotel Restaurant De Wapser Herberg. After enjoying a coffee with something delicious on the terrace, you walk into the outside area. Initially you still walk between the fields and grasslands. You can see some beautiful Saxon farms here. Further on you walk into Berkenheuvel, one of the forests in the Drenthe part of the national park. You mainly walk between birch and oak trees.
The Wigwam
The route also takes you past hiding place De Wigwam. During World War II, resistance fighters and allied pilots'lived\\\' here. At the end of 1944 the Germans discovered the cave, it took eight people their lives. Further on you walk from the woods onto the Wapserveld: what beautiful views you have here! You may even come across the herd of sheep grazing the moors.
