Between Vlaardingen, Maasluis and Maasland you can enjoy a lovely walk along the Vlietlanden. The landscape here consists of unique, never reclaimed reservoir land in an old low peat area. In the spring, the meadows here are full of colorful flowers and you will also find all kinds of birds here.
Unique peatlands
At the start of this route you set course for Vlaardingen. Then you continue walking to Schipluiden and Maasland. The area you walk through has never been reclaimed and that is quite unique in the Netherlands. The peat areas here are therefore higher than the surrounding polders. You will also find many wide canals here that are often used for sailing, a swamp forest and reed and hay fields. In the spring, the hayfield turns into a sea of flowers full of purple, yellow and other colored flowers. A beautiful sight to see. You can really enjoy this while walking, but it is also very beautiful here outside of spring.
Special birds
You will find all kinds of birds here all year round that are attracted to the water in this area. For example, approximately eighty pairs of blue herons live in the swamp forest. Further on you will find Bed & Breakfast Rechthuis van Zouteveen where you can spend the night.

Are you still not tired of the Vlietlanden after your walk? Then consider a boat trip through this water-rich environment. For example, you can rent canoes in this area to view the landscape from the water. Enjoy the peace and quiet just a stone's throw from the busy city of Rotterdam.

Het Sonnetje has been an established name in Maasland since 1992. What once started with just pancakes with the farm's own milk has grown into much more! The renewed'Sonnetje pancake & zo\\\' still means delicious pancakes, but it also stands for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Also for those who prefer something other than a pancake! A nice starting point on the main road between Maassluis and the beautiful Maasland. Perfect as a base for cycling and walking routes, for example through the Broekpolder!
