Description
Cycling on the Noordoostpolder is wonderful. This route takes you through Urk and the Kuinderbos, the oldest forest in the Noordoostpolder.
In Urk
This island feeling lives on among the residents: they still talk about 'Op Urk'. You can easily experience the historic atmosphere in the old city center. You will pass sights such as the Old Town Hall from 1903. The Church on the Sea is the oldest building in Urk, dating from 1786.
Kuinderbos
Just outside Urk you will pass one of the many markers where a shipwreck was found during the reclamation of the Zuiderzee. The Kuinderbos is the largest and oldest forest in the Noordoostpolder. It was constructed in a place where the former seabed turned out to be unsuitable for agriculture. When you get off here for a break, look at the ground: shell remains can still be found between the trees.
