Description
The Noordoostpolder is a great place to cycle. This route takes you through Urk and the Kuinderbos, the oldest forest in the Noordoostpolder.
On Urk
This island feeling lives on among the inhabitants: they still talk about'Op Urk\\\'. In the old city center you can easily breathe in the historical atmosphere. You pass sights such as the Old Town Hall from 1903. The Church by the Sea is the oldest building in Urk, it dates from 1786.
Kuinderbos
Just outside Urk you will pass one of the many markers where a shipwreck was found during the draining of the Zuiderzee. The Kuinderbos is the largest and oldest forest in the Noordoostpolder. It was created on a site where the former seabed was found to be unsuitable for agriculture. If you stop here for a break, take a look at the ground: shell remains can still be found between the trees.
