There is much to discover between Hengelo and Oldenzaal. This rural area is typically Twente: perfect for a nice day of cycling!
Saint Plechelmus Church
After a cup of coffee on the terrace of Het Anker Bar & Food you set off. You first drive through Saasveld, or Soasel as they call it here. You will pass the beautiful Roman Catholic Saint Plechelmus Church from 1926. The stained glass windows were realized over a period of thirty years by a glazier from Oldenzaal. The church is beautifully situated on the edge of the village: the Slot van Saterslo used to be here.
Hulsbeek
This route takes you through the countryside between Hengelo and Oldenzaal. Here you will find the typical Twente coulisse landscape of beautiful avenues with deciduous trees, lovely meadows with hedgerows and fields full of herbs and wild flowers. You will also pass a lot of water: you will discover the Gammelkerbeek and various lakes. Oldenzaal is the gateway to the Northeast Twente national landscape and is surrounded by beautiful nature reserves, such as the recreation area Het Hulsbeek with its beautiful lakes.
