Saint Plechelmus Church
After a cup of coffee on the terrace of Het Anker Bar & Food you set off. You first drive through Saasveld, or Soasel as they call it here. You pass the beautiful Roman Catholic Saint Plechelmus church from 1926. The stained glass windows were realized over a period of thirty years by an Oldenzaal glazier. The church is beautifully situated on the edge of the village: the Saterslo Castle used to be here.
This route takes you through the countryside between Hengelo and Oldenzaal. Here you will find the typical Twente bocage landscape of beautiful avenues with deciduous trees, lovely meadows with hedgerows and fields full of herbs and wild flowers. You will also pass a lot of water: you will discover the Gammelkerbeek and various lakes. Oldenzaal is the gateway to the national landscape of Northeast Twente and is surrounded by beautiful nature reserves, such as the recreation area Het Hulsbeek with its beautiful lakes.
Below you will find various suggestions for breaks that you can visit during your route. These are divided into different categories, making it easy for you to choose.
