Almere is ideal for a beautiful and varied bike ride. You cycle through city districts that are designed in a playful and innovative way. There is also a lot of special urban nature to be found.
Kotterbos
The route starts at the Oostvaardersdijk. A beautiful place to immediately relax as you look out over the rippling Markermeer. A little later you have a beautiful view over the rugged Oostvaardersplassen. Get off at the De Oostvaarders Nature Experience Center to spot some animals with the binoculars provided without disturbing them. Further on you drive between the poplars of the Kotterbos. You will also see willows and reed fields.
Queen Beatrix Park
You drive into Almere along the leafy Lage Vaart. Cycling through Almere you immediately notice how rich this city is in nature. For example, you pass the Weerwater, a small lake that was created by sand extraction during the construction of the Wij Almere Haven. Further on you pass through the Koningin Beatrix Park and the Lepelaarplassen, an unspoilt nature reserve.
