The wooded border area near Bergen op Zoom

Around Bergen op Zoom you can take a beautiful bike ride through the forests and charming villages in the Dutch-Belgian border area. You will also learn something from the rich history of the Markiezaatstad itself.

Wouwse Plantation
During the first kilometers you will cycle your legs in the countryside of Essen, Belgium. You drive through a landscape of grasslands, streams and small forests. You also ride along the cycle path that has been constructed exactly on the border itself. Further on you drive through the sixteenth-century estate the Wouwse Plantage. It is also wonderfully peaceful to cycle in the neighboring estates of Lievensberg and Zoomland. What beautiful forests!

Markiezenhof
In the beautiful city center of Bergen op Zoom you can enjoy the many monumental buildings. You will pass, among other things, the Grote Markt. Here you will see, among other things, the St. Gertrude Church with its striking tower and the Town Hall, the oldest part of which dates from 1403. You will also pass the Markiezenhof, a late Gothic city palace from 1485. On the Binnenschelde you can enjoy a coffee and something tasty at Het Strandhuys. In Huijbergen you can admire the Mill Johanna from 1862.
