De Witte Bergen is a small-scale nature reserve near Someren that is ideal for a wonderful walk. The route also takes you through the mining village of Someren-Eind and the outskirts of Peel.
Peel
Someren-Eind is a mining village that was founded in the mid-nineteenth century. The entire Peel (approximately 30,000 hectares) once consisted of wasteland. Now you walk between fields, grasslands and small-scale forest. Ideal for forgetting the everyday routine. And to catch up with your fellow hiker(s).
White Mountains
You also walk through the White Mountains. This name refers to the vast sand drift that this nature reserve once was. Around 1925, production forests were planted here as part of job creation. It is wonderful to walk here among the fragrant conifers. On the banks of the pond you can relax and look out over the rippling water. The pond was created in the 1960s, after sand was excavated for the construction of a provincial road.
