De Witte Bergen is a small-scale nature reserve near Someren that is ideal for a lovely walk. The route also takes you through the reclamation village of Someren-Eind and the outskirts of the Peel.
Peel
Someren-Eind is a reclamation village and was founded in the mid-nineteenth century. The entire Peel (approximately 30,000 hectares) once consisted of wastelands. Now you walk between fields, grasslands and small-scale forest. Ideal to forget the routine of everyday life for a while. And to chat with your fellow walker(s).
White Mountains
You also walk through the Witte Bergen. This name refers to the vast sand drift that this nature reserve once was. Around 1925, production forests were planted here as part of job creation. It is wonderful to walk here among the fragrant conifers. On the bank of the pond you can look out over the rippling water at your leisure. The pond was created in the sixties, after sand was excavated for the construction of a provincial road.
