Tour of Borger and Odoorn

A day in Drenthe is best experienced by bike. This route takes you through Borger and the surrounding area. You will also pass the LOFAR radio telescope, a unique sight. You start the route at De Kippesthee Koffie & Thee. Grab a terrace here before you get on your bike. In Odoorn you can see the Margaretha Church. The choir dates from the twelfth century, up to four meters high, the building layer consists of granite boulders. A little later you drive into Borger. You pass dolmen D27, the largest in the Netherlands. Nearby is the Hunebedcentrum. You will also pass the Willibrord Church, whose tower dates from the Middle Ages. In the green village of Valthe you can admire some characteristic Saxon farms. The Hunzedal is a vast and unspoilt swampy nature reserve where the LOFAR radio telescope is located.
