Description

Enkhuizen is a beautiful old city. You will find plenty of old buildings there. On the edge of the city you pass the Koepoort, a detached city gate from 1649. Via Bovenkarspel you drive to the Streekbos, a relatively young nature reserve. The adjacent De Weelen is an old sailing country where the characteristic mining pattern from the Middle Ages has been preserved. You will see ditches that run from north to south. Then you cycle along the centuries-old West Frisian Omringdijk: the only monumental dike in the world. From the cycle path you have a beautiful view for miles over the rippling water of the IJsselmeer. You pass Lighthouse De Ven from 1700, one of the oldest lighthouses in the Netherlands. You will also pass the Zuiderzee Museum.
