This route takes you past a number of Dutch lakes: the Brassemermeer, the Westeinderplassen and the Kagerplassen. In addition to water-rich views, you will also find many historic villages in this region.

Brassemermeer
From the cycle path you can see old farms and some beautiful mills. You cross the Paddegat with a ferry, after which you will see some of the six islands of De Hemmen in the Brassemermeer. They were created after a dike breach in 1788. In Rijnsaterwoude you pass the Dekkermolen from 1911.

Westeinderplassen
You take a tour around the Westeinderplassen. This area was created by peat extraction, but was never drained. A nice place to take a break and enjoy the silence along the shore. The Fort at Kudelstaart, part of the Defense Line of Amsterdam, is also located on the water. You drive across the Huigsloterdijk to the village of Kaag. You can cross the Kagerplassen on a ferry: how fun!

Behind dikes, at the edge of waterways and often at the end of farm roads, under small grassy hills, another world is hidden. A green world of white walls, steel doors and bats. The fort on this site was built between 1905 and 1906 as part of the Defense Line of Amsterdam.
