Wuustwezel is a charming Belgian village in the Antwerp Kempen. With this walk you will discover some historical sights and the natural beauty around Wuustwezel.

Little Brook
From the starting point you can walk straight into the Owl Forest, a small-scale forest area where Corsican pines and deciduous trees grow. When you walk out of the forest, you will see a pond on the right that was created by sand extraction. Further on you walk along the pristine heath of the Groot Schietveld: a military training area, so inaccessible. A little later you walk along the Kleine Beek. Pollard willows and ash trees grow on the banks. What a beautiful spot!

Castle Hens
As you walk along a path lined with monumental old oaks, you pass an old castle gate on your left. It is the former entrance to Kasteel Ginhoven, a building that was destroyed by a V-bomb during World War II. In the outside area you can still see some beautiful old farms. At the municipal park you will pass the Hens Castle, built in neo-Flemish Gothic style, from 1910. Further on is the village church, which originally dates from 1257, but was renovated around 1900.

The Marum (? 315 ha) is the most northern part of the Groot Schietveld and lies to the left of the Kampweg towards Brecht and has been a military domain since the 1890s. Due to the decades of military use, the historic stream valley landscape in the Marum has largely been preserved. and traces of land use from the early Middle Ages to the present day can be found. Nature has also benefited from this: heather and poor grasslands that were once common in the Kempen have been preserved in the Marum, and a number of important animal and plant species that are associated with this are still there.
