Around Essen, Belgium, you'll enjoy a varied cycling tour through the Dutch-Belgian border region. As you might expect from the Kempen region, you'll pass through some beautiful green nature reserves where you'll be amazed. Near Nispen, you'll explore beautiful nature reserves, such as the Honingbossen (Honey Forests). Visit the Watermolenbeek Environmental Education Centre (MEC) on the Visdonk Estate. Here you'll learn all about the unique environment. The estate already existed in the 17th century, and in summer, beautiful marsh gentians bloom around the Rosenven. Along the way, take a break at Brasserie De Bosrust! You'll cycle back through the Maatjes Nature Reserve, a cross-border marshland reed landscape. Here you'll find the 7-meter-high lookout tower "de Klot," which refers to a clump (or ball) of peat. Peat extraction took place here on a large scale between 1250 and 1750.
