The Mates
From the outskirts of Essen you drive to the Wildertse Duintjes, a relief-rich and varied forest with open spaces, shrubs, drifting dunes and heather remnants. Further on you pass through De Maatjes, a unique cross-border nature reserve with reed fields, swamp forests and wet meadows. It is unusually quiet here. Enjoy the peace and quiet here and relax completely while cycling. The next nature reserve will not be long in coming. In the Horendonkse Bossen you drive between the fragrant conifers. It will not surprise you that many smuggling routes once ran here.
The Kiekenhoeve
Immediately after you cross the border, you drive into the vast Rucphen Forests. Riding along the cycle path you will experience invigorating peace for miles. Then you cycle back to Essen. On the outskirts of Essen you can relax after your tour at De Kiekenhoeve. Order something tasty from the extensive menu and let yourself be culinary pampered. You deserve that after your bike ride.
