The Mates
From the edge of Essen you drive to the Wildertse Duintjes, a relief-rich and varied forest with open spaces, shrubs, shifting dunes and heath remnants. Further on you pass De Maatjes, a unique cross-border nature reserve with reed beds, marshes and wet meadows. It is incredibly quiet here. Enjoy the tranquility here and relax completely while cycling. The next nature reserve is not long in coming. In the Horendonkse Bossen you drive between the fragrant coniferous trees. It will not surprise you that many smuggling roads once ran here.
The Kiekenhoeve
Immediately after you cross the border, you drive into the vast Rucphense Bossen. Driving on the cycle path you will experience a refreshing tranquility for miles. You then cycle back to Essen. On the outskirts of Essen you can relax after your trip at De Kiekenhoeve. Order something delicious from the extensive menu and let yourself be pampered culinary.
