Provided by: route.nl
Hattem is a beautiful Hanseatic town, but the surroundings are also worth a visit. Take a walk through the floodplains, beautiful nature reserves where many rare birds can be spotted.
Rare Birds
Your route starts after an overnight stay at B&B de Rivierduin, about 2 kilometers outside the Hanseatic city of Hattem. From the rooms you have a beautiful view over the IJssel. The B&B is located in a unique location in the floodplains of the IJssel. These nature reserves, where the water has free rein, form an important transition between the river and the Veluwe. There are rare birds such as the kingfisher, bittern and hen harrier.
Wiessenberg Kolk
You walk south along the IJssel. Here you follow the Kanaaldijk along the Apeldoorns Kanaal to the north again, from the dike you have a beautiful view over the lakes, wooded banks and grasslands of the Hoenwaard that you just walked around. You will also see the Wiessenbergse Kolk, which you will soon pass by. The route is also worth doing in winter, when you can see the beak swans at the Wiessenbergse Kolk.
Below you will find various suggestions for breaks that you can visit during your route. These are divided into different categories, making it easy for you to choose.
