Put on your walking shoes and come and discover the charm of Middelburg. You will find cosiness in abundance here - just like heritage of course! After the threat of Vikings passed, Middelburg - a former burg - began to take advantage of its favorable location on the water. The city developed into a trading center and was the second most important city in the Netherlands at the time of the VOC! Just before you enter the city center, you will pass De Koning: a flour mill from 1882. From Kinderdijk you can look out over Rouaansekaai with its eighteenth-century merchant houses and warehouses. At the foot of the ancient Lange Jan, the beautiful abbey tower. The Zeeuws Museum is located in the beautiful abbey complex, a nice trip. Walking along the Noordsingel you look out over the canal and the park that was built on the site of the demolished defenses.
