The Kasteelse Bossen are located on the edge of Horst in Limburg. Put on your hiking boots and explore this varied nature reserve.
Ter Horst Castle
The route starts at Parkhotel Horst, a cozy location for a drink and something to eat. You soon pass the ruins of Kasteel Ter Horst, a fortress built in the early fourteenth century. During the Eighty Years' War, the castle was partially destroyed, later it fell into disrepair. Only the tithe barn and nearby farm were preserved. Part of the castle ruin has been restored, so that you can now take a look into the past.
Castle Forests
A little later you walk into the outside area. It is wonderfully quiet walking between the meadows and farms. Ideal for a nice chat with your fellow hikers. After a while you walk back into the Kasteelse Bossen. There are still many oaks, beeches and Scots pines that were planted around 1800. The stately avenues also remind you of the time when this beautiful area was still an estate. What a beautiful walk!
