This route takes you through Stevensweert and Wessem, two former fortified towns with a rich cultural-historical heritage. You also cross the Maas for a quiet tour through Belgian Limburg.
Island in the Meuse
It is wonderfully peaceful here to cycle between the grasslands and the water. You will see some centuries-old farms and on the edge of Ohé you will pass Het Geudje. This castle has a striking Maasland Renaissance facade from 1651. On the characteristic village square of Roosteren you can see the monumental Sint-Jacobus de Meerkerk from 1843.
Jagersborg
It is wonderful to travel miles in rural Belgian Limburg. Every now and then you drive through a pleasant village. Like Neeroeteren, you pass the striking St. Lambertus Church here. The Jagersborg is a moist birch and oak forest. It was so poorly accessible for decades that nature had plenty of time to create a beautiful wild forest. Just below Thorn you pass the Grote Hegge, a centuries-old manor. Limburg is so rich in heritage!
