Description
Get to know Park Ruigenhoek, a relatively new recreational area just above Utrecht. You will also walk past a fort from the Defense Line of Utrecht and through the old Ruigenhoekse Polder.
Old mill
You walk through Park Ruigenhoek, completed in 2012: a varied and vast recreational area with charming bridges, decking and ponds. On the edge of the park you will pass the Molen Geesina, a beautiful flour mill from 1843.
Utrecht Defense Line
Further afield is Fort Ruigenhoek from 1870. Staatsbosbeheer regularly organizes guided tours of the fort. From the path you look out over the former peatlands. The landscape here is parceled out in a characteristic way: with plots of about 40 meters wide and sometimes more than a kilometer long. Some polders have been redesigned as nature reserves. You will see open water, reed beds and marshlands. What a beautiful walk here!
