Description
Get to know Park Ruigenhoek, a relatively new recreational area just above Utrecht. You also walk past a fortress from the Defense Line of Utrecht and through the old Ruigenhoekse Polder.
Old mill
You walk through Park Ruigenhoek, which was completed in 2012: a varied and wide recreation area with charming bridges, platforms and ponds. At the edge of the park you pass the Molen Geesina, a beautiful flour mill from 1843.
Defense of Utrecht
Further on is Fort Ruigenhoek from 1870. Staatsbosbeheer regularly organizes guided tours of the fort. From the path you look out over the former peat bogs. The landscape here is parceled out in a characteristic way: with plots of about 40 meters wide and sometimes more than a kilometer long. Some polders have been redesigned as nature reserves. You see open water, reed beds and wetlands. What a beautiful walk here!
