Description
Between Roermond and the German border you walk through the rural area around Asenray. Put on your sturdy shoes for a beautiful trip full of special natural beauty.
\\\'t Veen
At Boerderijterras and Camping het Spikkerdal you can enjoy a fresh pie with coffee or a dish from the small menu. From the terrace you have a view of the orchards, that's another enjoyment! You then walk through a small-scale forest to Asenray, a characteristic Limburg church village. Near the German border you walk through't Veen, an unspoilt nature development area. The height differences here are caused by the Peelrand fracture.
The Spike
Walking on the border with Germany you pass a monument to the fourteen citizens of Roermond who were executed here by the Germans during Christmas 1944. Further on you walk through the Luzenkamp, a wonderfully quiet forest. The last part you walk on the footpath through the Spik: an ecological connecting zone. You walk through flowery grasslands, small pieces of forest and transitional areas with shrubs and rougher herbs. Beautiful!
