Moordrecht is a charming village on the Hollandse IJssel. Ideal for exploring on foot. In the countryside you can walk along the river and through the Middenblok Polder.
Polder Middelblok
From Moordrecht you cross the Hollandse IJssel by ferry, an almost old-fashioned experience. In Gouderak you walk past the town hall from 1842, behind which is the village church from 1658. The Polder Middenblok is a characteristic part of the peat meadow area with its narrow meadow plots and many ditches. Already in the Middle Ages, pioneers always entered the peat swamp here to depolder the area. Now you will find many meadow birds there. And a wonderful rest!
Dutch IJssel
After crossing the Hollandse IJssel, you walk back to Moordrecht. Just before the village you pass the Catholic church and associated parsonage, two monuments from the nineteenth century. In Moordrecht itself you walk a bit through the part that enjoys a protected village view. What a beautiful village!
