Description
The Tielerwaard is the heart of the Betuwe. You cycle through pearls such as Tiel and Geldermalsen. In the sparsely populated rural area you can enjoy the peace and quiet and the many fruit orchards.
Monumental Water Gate
Departing over the dike along the Waal you have beautiful views over the rippling water. Within the dike are the fruit orchards for which this region is known. From a distance you can see Tiel coming closer. This former fortified city was founded in 850-1100, it is one of the oldest cities in the Netherlands! From the Havendijk you can see the monumental Waterpoort from 1647.
Picturesque Geldermalsen
The Betuwe Fruit Growing Museum is located in a restored Betuwe haystack from 1891. Here you will learn everything about regional fruit growing. Further on you pass through Erichem, a picturesque village where you can admire several centuries-old monumental farms. You cycle through the Heerlijkheid Mariënwaerdt, a private estate with a wealth of old buildings. After you get off at Wijndomein Het Spijck, you drive through the picturesque old Geldermalsen. What a beautiful route.
