Cycling through the Tielerwaard

From the dike along the Waal River, you have beautiful views of the rippling water. Inside the dike lie the orchards for which this region is known. In the distance, you can see Tiel approaching. This former fortified town, founded as early as 850-1100, is one of the oldest cities in the Netherlands! From the Havendijk, you can see the monumental Water Gate from 1647. The Betuwe Fruit Growing Museum is housed in a restored Betuwe haystack from 1891. Here you can learn all about regional fruit cultivation. Further on, you pass through Erichem, a picturesque village where you can admire several centuries-old monumental farms. You cycle through the Heerlijkheid Marienwaerdt, a private estate rich in historic buildings. After a break at Wijndomein Het Spijck, you cycle through the picturesque old town of Geldermalsen. What a change!
