Description
This walk takes you along Andijk. You walk through the fifteenth-century polder Het Grootslag. You also walk on the West Frisian Omringdijk: what a view!
West Frisian Omringdijk
You walk across the path into the polder. You can enjoy the silence and the wide landscape here, your walk will start right away! Further on you walk onto the West Frisian Omringdijk, the only monumental dike in the world! In total it is 126 kilometers long. From the dike you have beautiful views over the IJsselmeer.
The Ven
About halfway through your walk you will pass one of the oldest and most beautiful lighthouses in the Netherlands: De Ven. This white square brick building dates from 1700 and has a light height of 17 metres. The lighthouse was built together with two others to guide ships safely through the former Zuiderzee. Of these three eighteenth-century lighthouses, only De Ven is still standing.
