Description

Situated in the Deurnesche Peel nature reserve and near the former peat colony of Griendtsveen, Natuurpoort De Peel offers access to a unique wetland on the border of North Brabant and Limburg. A diverse landscape of ponds, plains, woods, and sandy ridges. It is also one of the richest bird areas in Western Europe and a beautiful hiking area with a rich history of peat extraction.

This walking route leads through the Deurnesche Peel region, passing through Griendstveen, a former peat colony that reads like a history book. With its old village pumps, drawbridges, perfectly straight peat canals, and characteristic buildings, it exudes a rich peat-cutting history.
