Your route starts at Brasserie De 3 Heeren. For centuries, the Drentsche Aa has meandered through the Drenthe and Groningen countryside. In the Drentsche Aa National Park, you feel transported to bygone times. Here you will find the old, typical Drenthe esdorp landscape of Saxon farmhouses around the village green, fields on the rounded escarpments, hay meadows, and pastures. The Deurzerdiep is the local name for the stream that is only called the Drentsche Aa once you reach Groningen. You will also discover the Balloo escarpment. In the distance, you can see the church tower of the esdorp Rolde: the 15th-century Gothic church has been a landmark in the landscape for centuries. On the way back, you can view two dolmens. What a varied route, a beautiful cross-section of this magnificently rich primeval landscape!
Below you will find various suggestions for breaks that you can visit during your route. These are divided into different categories, making it easy for you to choose.
